These Are The Good Old Days

I’m back! Sorry I’ve been absent a few days. We had a house full of company and boy was it ever busy! I’ll have to tell you stories later, but I will say we all had a great time and it was wonderful spending time with family for a few days. I will cherish these last few days the rest of my life.

I still need to continue with the questions that have been asked from my Ask Me Anything Par-tay, so here it goes …

Okay, being that I am a true lover of music, I’m so glad that Pilar actually put a category to her question – favorite songs that say who you are. Otherwise, if I was simply asked my 5 favorite songs, there’s no way I could narrow it down to five. Now you can ask me my 5 favorite Willie songs, or my 5 favorite hair band songs, or my 5 favorite blues songs, etc… But certainly not just a blanketed 5 favorite songs. That’s like asking me which is my favorite leg, my right one or my left one? I truly love music. All music – rock, country, blues, gospel. And of course even the music that I believe is worthy of its own category: Willie, Waylon, Elvis, Prince, Elton, Billy Joel, and the Rolling Stones.

I think one reason I love music so much is because I appreciate deeply the talent of those with the gift, being that I can't carry a tune in a bucket - neither can Jack. If we had been able to have children, we certainly wouldn't have been the next singing family of von Trapp's. I'm so un-musical that when I decided to take up the french horn in high school, my band director actually told me to just fake it, to just sit there and act like I was playing when we were preparing for the concert and sight reading contest!

So, Pilar wants to know the 5 songs that really say who you are. Here is goes:

1. What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. If I had to pick a hands-down favorite song and wasn't given anytime to think about, this is the first one that would pop in my mind. I do believe in this world and I believe it’s wonderful. The more you travel, the more you realize how much more alike we are than different. Yes, when I look around I see the beautiful trees of green and skies of blue, and I do think to myself, what a wonderful world.
2. Cowboy Take Me Away by the Dixie Chicks. Yes, I love my Chicks (I also love my freedom of speech, so please don’t get all huffy on me for loving the great music of the Dixie Chicks, I think they rock and they entertain me quite well), especially this song. It really does sing to me. I completely relate to wanting to grow something wild and unruly, and to wanting to touch the earth and break it in my hands. That blanket of blue bonnets does seem really nice to me. And yes, a cowboy did take me away.
3. You Better Be Good To Me by Tina Turner. Maybe my cowboy did take me away, but hey - that doesn’t mean I don’t have to remind him from time to time that he better be good to me!
4. You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones. Do I need to say more?
5. Anticipation by Carly Simon. This is just my life story y’all. There is so darn much I want to do and experience that I just get all antsy because it’s not happening fast enough. I’m a dreamer and a visionary – I’m constantly thinking in the future. I can drive Jack flat crazy with my just imagine when’s and my can’t wait til’s. He will often say, “Can we just enjoy the here and now for a little bit?” He’s right, and I really do need to enjoy being in the moment, really being there. I struggle with anticipation all the time, but you know – today REALLY IS the good old days.

Thanks, Pilar, for keeping me in this moment!
