The Queen of Make Do & A Giveaway, Too!!!

Hi ya'll! I'm back from a business trip and lots of other great little things that I've been up to. The most exciting thing is that we finally have - by customer demand - our No. 145 Lavender Body Lotion available in a tube! Yeehaw! (or Oh No! Depending on how you look at it... Which will make more sense as you read on....)

It took forever to get these tubes to market AND I'm glad to tell you, my best blogging buddies, that you are the first to see it! It's our same great No. 145 lotion, no changes there, but now also available in a tube so you can carry it around in your purse, car, etc.. Oh - and the good news is that it's 3 ounces and airline safe! You don't have to worry about getting your lotion hijacked at the security line anymore...

Now, 3 ounces is still a good size, which is why I'm showing you a picture of the tube next to the 8 ounce bottle. But - the tube is easier for mobility and there is no waste. You can squeeze out every last drop onto your whole entire dried up scaly body...

Now - ya'll know there's always a story behind every photo, so I have to share this one with you. The pictures you are seeing were made by me, the biggest non-photographer in the world. But - I am the Queen of Make Do, and well - I'm broke after having to buy 10,000 tubes, so I'm making do..... You see, when I happened to develop the best lotion in the universe, I had no idea that even I, a farm chick, would have to buy tubes in the same volume as Mr. Proctor & Mrs. Gamble.

Don't they know who I am?

I'm simply trying to heal everyone's dry skin without a bunch of cheap chemicals.... Heck - I'm not Mr. Colgate and I've never even met Mrs. Palmolive. Come on Mr. Tube Man - give me a break!
So now I'm forced to take my own pictures while I pay the Tube Man my life savings...

Okay - so back to the story behind the photos... As I said, I'm not a photographer. My first attempt was indoors with a black background.

The glare was bad and I couldn't get it right. That's when Jack walked in and shook his head at what I was doing. He said, "Why don't you just go outside and then you won't have to worry about the glare or the flash." And of course I said, "well, I just wanted to make it harder on myself." He then said as he pulled away the black background, "Honey, this isn't going to work - just try it outside."

He then got a big, BIG laugh out of my props.... hence, my "make do." You see, I was using my black pashmina draped over a lamp and a bottle of port in the kitchen. Hey - like I said, I'm the Queen of Make Do.

Look real close at this picture and you can see the lamp behind my scarf. Oh - and speaking of my scarf, if you don't have a pashmina, please get one. They serve so many purposes.

Okay - so as I looked at the pictures, I figured Jack was right. Every single picture was blurry and glare-y. So - what the heck, I'll go try it outside.

And to be honest with you, for a non-photographer, I don't think they're THAT bad...

So what is the tube and lotion bottle propped up on outside?

It's the old well in front of the original farmhouse.

The old red pump on the other side of the well still works! It's what we use to water the grounds.

Okay - so enough about the story behind the photography... Let's talk about my BLOGGY GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Since I have more tubes than S. E. Johnson has wax, I'm giving away TEN! Yep - that's right. Ten tubes to 10 random people that comment on this post. Here are the rules:

1. Comment that you would like a free tube of Hummingbird Farms Lavender Body Lotion No. 145.

2. I will compile all your names and let Jack randomly pull ten names out of a bag... or something.

3. I will notify you if you are a winner and your tube of the creamiest lotion ever will be on its way.

Oh - and one last thing. If you happen to be a winner and like the product, I would be very happy if you would send me an email on what you think about our lotion. Heck, even if you don't like the lotion let me know what you think. If you're okay with it, I would like to put your testimonial on our new website that should be up and running in about 5 to 6 more days. I'm going to have a testimonial page, and I will even include a link to your blog under your testimonial on our website... Again, this is only if you are okay with it.

AND - one last thing before this post ends up being the longest post in history. Let me tell you just a bit about the lotion:

1. It is aloe-based, not water based. We have added NO water, so only a little dab'll do ya'. Seriously, you won't need but about a pea-size for your hands.

2. Please start looking at your favorite lotion. I promise that you will find that 90% of the time, the first ingredient is water. At Hummingbird Farms, all our products are aloe-based.

3. There is no synthetic fragrance in our products. The scent comes from the natural essential oils that are used (specifically lavender) and will subside after a while. So that means you can wear No. 145 Lavender Body Lotion and not worry about it interfering with your No. 5 Chanel Perfume.

4. We use vitamins for preservatives, no parabens.

And - that's all I have to say.... Good Luck & have a wonderful week!

Well, I would certainly love a 3 oz. tube of your Hummingbird Farms Lavender Body Lotion No. 145..besides today is my birthday, surely that counts for something...;)"wink"...I know it's the bomb-diggidy...b/c I have it in the 8 oz. pump, but because I have been traveling so much lately I can not think of a better lotion to have on hand than your Texas grown...scrumptous feeling...sweet smelling lavender delight. Plus I would be airport "legal"...I just love the stuff!!

BTW...thanks Deb for the information on the copperheads..makes me feel like I really did something by killing that thing...AND we are moving to Sacramento, CA. I am looking forward to it AND I'm am also looking forward to when we return home to Texas. We may be out there 3, 4 or possibly 5 years depending on how long hubbins contract runs...by then we will be either 55, 56 or possibly EVEN 57...58 for hubbin...so we will most certainly consider coming back here to retire OR maybe your beautiful hill country.

Again, thanks for a chance to win your give-a-way. OH, I think your pictures turned out great...I do LOVE the ones out by the old well pump...awesome look!

Blessings...
Teresa

Regardless of what my screen name says, I am a guy, and I would like a free tube of Hummingbird Farms Lavender Body Lotion No. 145. The Scotsman in me cannot turn down any offer that may be free. Thanks.

First let me say "thanks" for your sweet comments on my post earlier today... I admit I was feeling a little "low"... and somehow, typing it all out helped.

I use Lavender lotion (every single day) from that company that only sells lotions, sprays, soaps... etc... and my lotion comes in a pretty blue bottle... so after reading your post, I got curious and went to get the bottle and read the ingredients... sure enough... first ingredient... water... then a bunch of other ingredients with names like Tocopheryl Acetate... isn't acetate that stuff in nail polish remover? yikes!

Okay girl... enter me in the drawing... but even if I don't win... I'll be looking forward to your website... I think you just got yourself a new customer!

blessings. Dixie

Oh shoot... and I forgot to say Jack was absolutely right, and your outdoor photo is just beautiful....

and... today I picked up 4-new little Lavender plants... which I'm putting in my vegatable garden... hopefully they will do better out there in the full sun with a little bit better drainage.

Oh Deb, you have done it this time. I have been telling Donna since she got your wonder lotion that it needs to come in a tube so that i can show it off to all my little girl friends. I would love a free tube of Hummingbird Farms Lavender Body Lotion No. 145. It wouldn't really be for me, i'd haul it around in my backpack and show all my little friends just what an incredible lotion it really is. As for the Photographs, Jack was right. Outside was the place and the leaves and weathered plank were a pretty good backdrop for your pic. I know it probably doesn't mean much, but i like it. Anyway, great news blog, but you never mentioned price on the tube. I'm keen to know that too. One last thing, remember, you are way too famous to be spelling y'all any other way than that way....lol take care y'all. Dave

The outdoor picture turned out fantastic. So fantastic that I would love to pamper myself with this wonderful mix of essential ingredients. I know it must be the best lavender lotion in the world for you to buy 10,000 tubes. Although this does seem like a lot of tubes, I bet you sell out with a blink of an eye!
Please enter me in your giveaway. Me luvs lavender and I'm already addicted to lotion so I may as well love and promote a lotion where I know the cool chick that I makes the lovely potion! Was that a tongue twister, or what? haha
Have a great Sunday!

Justine/Justiney/Tiney said...

Ooh wheee, this is exciting stuff for you! Your potion in a tube! I'm so excited for you, and hope it's a big hit with your customers! I also hope I win a tube because my skin is so scaly that I closely resemble a lizard I saw the other day. Scary stuff, I promise you. Put my name in the bag. Or the hat. Or whatever you decide to use.

Btw... the outdoor picture with the leaves in the background is brilliant. Lends a more organic air the photo than a pashmina. LOL

Hello Debi,
Could you please answer my question I have for many years now. Everyone loves lavender, the color is so beautiful and the fieldws a magnificant site. BUT...lavender makes me have nausia and I start shivering, like fainting. I have no heay fever or anything. Menthol almost has the effect on me. What is wrong ? Why is this that lavender does this to me ?
Please leave a comment on my blog.
You have beautiful products. Greetings

Hi Deb,
I have been a fan of your blog from the very beginning but have NEVER posted a comment, mostly because I have "I'll come back and do that later" disease. Anyway, today I actually have a little time, and I couldn't resist your proposition. Another reason is that I am already sold on the lotion and will not use anything else, and I am running low. I would love to carry around this lotion in my purse. I actually love all of your products. I happen to think the Spa Treatment is second to none !!
Love you
Gayle

Oh, you KNOW that I would LOVE a tube of your MARVELOUS NO. 145 lotion ... and I'm excited about the ease of getting every last drop from the new design (I've been known to cut off the top of the bottle in order to get those last bits of lotion that the pump wouldn't dispense).

Truly one of the best hand lotions I've used ... and it SMELLS GOOD, too! :-)

Guaranteed, it will be on my desk at work so I can refresh my spirits and soothe my skin...
