So up there in the center, looking right at you is Clementine, our little baby bull calf. Isn't he a doll? In front of him is his cousin, Little Lange. To his left is his best buddy and cousin.

"Gayle just hears the word GO and she's grabbing her purse" -Betty B.(my grandmother, aka "Nanny")
I believe that many of you know that three of our longhorn heifers are named after the 3 women in my extended family that rule the roost: Marsha, Gayle, and Kathy.
I was just being silly when I decided to name my cows after my mother, aunt, and cousin. BUT - what I never realized was how they would take on similar traits of their namesakes. I'm serious.
Oh - and for the record, longhorns DO have personalities. And like humans, they have unique personalities. So this is Gayle and she is very social. She will see a human from afar and will make a bee line to you to say hi. I suppose some humans might get a bit nervous if a 1200 pound longhorn comes charging towards you.... But - we know it's just Gayle. And she's just social that way.

Why Lavender Chick, how do you keep your boots standing so tall? And – didn’t Nikki Sixx always wear cowboy boots?
I had a list of things to accomplish today. Remember my last post where I claimed to be all ambitious by getting my Christmas decorations put away? Well – I got a little distracted and a week later I’m deciding to tackle the project again.
It’s a cold and rainy day and for some reason sitting by the fire and reading sounds so much more pleasing. So – I probably won’t get much done today except for hollering for Jack when it’s time to put another log on the fire.
As I type this, I am taking a brief break from my book and Jack is now reading his book. So what are we reading?
Jack is reading a book about George Washington because he’s just smart like that.
I’m reading a book about Nikki Sixx and Motley Crue because I’m just cool like that.
Because – you know, opposites attract and we’re just good like that.
Since I don’t want to feel like I’ve wasted an entire day reading a book about Nikki Sixx (which is REALLY good), I will share this bit of Lavender Chick wisdom:

I have a goal every year to get our Christmas decorations put up somewhere between Elvis' birthday and Valentines Day. I have to say that last year it was closer to Valentine's Day, but by-golly this year I'm so full of energy and motivation, everything is being put away today - a day after Elvis' birthday! Just don't hold me to the taking down the tree part. I'm attached. I suppose I could be like my Aunt Gayle and leave a tree up all year. Hmmmmm. Why can't we have a Valentine's Tree? An Easter Tree? A 4th of July tree?
I love it when the house is all decorated, hence my procrastination in putting everything up. So - with that, I will say goodbye dear Christmas tree. We enjoyed your company. Please don't tell any of the secrets you might have heard during the season, as we had lots of fun and very dear friends and family around you this year. I'm sure you got an ear full (or would that be needle full?). We hope the tree we pick next year is as beautiful as you. You've been a good friend.
So - with that, it gets me thinking of all the things, in addition to our Christmas tree, that I have loved in 2010, such as my suzani that I bought during ArtWalk 2010. Love, love it! Here it is over my coffee table.
Only one problem. See that precious little kitty in the bottom-right corner? Look closely. Slider is his name.
Those crystal pillar candle holders don't exist anymore.
Only Slider and Abe knows why....
Don't know how this sweet face could be up to any mischief...
All I know is that Abe and Slider were the only ones in the room when Jack heard, CRASH!!!!!
And they made a best friend pact never to tell.
And the Christmas tree isn't saying either.

This is our newest baby at Hummingbird Farms. We are so happy! Can't believe little Punkin' is a mother...
So Lisa said we should name the baby Lang, as in Auld Lang Syne. And so it shall be.
Welcome to Hummingbird Farms, Little Lang!
